Course Descriptions
Bridge English (BRG 102) is designed to prepare you for English Composition. It is an intensive study of the writing process through a review and practice of basic writing skills. You are also given individual instruction which allows you to focus on the specific skills you need to develop. Though there is an emphasis on grammar and sentence structure, Bridge English focuses on the writing process through a series of essay revisions. You will gain skills in descriptive, narrative, persuasive and research writing.
Bridge Math (BRG 010) is a review course designed to prepare you for MAT 103 (required for all elementary, early childhood, and special ed majors) and Bridge Algebra. It reviews basic math skills (fractions, decimals, percents, order of operations, exponents, signed numbers, basic algebra, geometry) and introduces you to selected topics from UMF’s MAT 103 course (problem solving, sequences, sets, Venn diagrams). In addition, this course teaches the computer and calculator skills required in college courses.
Bridge Algebra (BRG 011) is a review course designed to prepare you for math courses requiring an algebra background. The course reviews basic algebra skills including first degree equations, graphing, proportions, exponents and exponential notation, formula use, simultaneous equations, and slopes. In addition to teaching the computer and calculator skills you will need in your college courses, PBS algebra introduces statistics topics such as mean, median, mode, range, standard deviation, and normal curves.
